Invokana Defective Drug Attorneys

Williamson & Rusnak has years of experience representing those harmed by side effects and drug interactions of the prescription drug Invokana. We fight for your rights to make sure you receive the compensation you deserve for your drug complications.

Invokana, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, was originally marketed to help patients with type 2 diabetes. Invokana is also known as “Canagliflozin” and has been know to harm patients rather than for its ability to help patients. Canagliflozin, or Invokana is  a prescription medicine used with diet and exercise to help lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes.  They belong to a class of drugs called sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors.  Canagliflozin lowers blood sugar by causing the kidneys to remove sugar from the body through the urine.

Serious Side Effects

The FDA has released three (3) safety alerts on the dangers of Invokana and a similar drug, Invokamet. This number is astounding when it is considered that these drugs were only initially approved in 2013 and 2014. The latest information from the FDA warns that patients who take Invokana are approximately two (2) times as likely to require an amputation as patients on a placebo pill.

Diabetics are known to already be at risk for foot and nerve damage; however, it appears that Invokana greatly exacerbates the problem.

If you notice the following, talk to your physician and consider quitting Invokana:

  • Ketoacidosis
  • Tenderness or Pain
  • Ulcers or Sores
  • Leg or Foot Infections
